Said Mr Ng, “I am very pleased to return to Nanjing for the 2014 Nanjing Olympic Games. My heartiest congratulations to the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee for an impressive and spectacular opening ceremony last night.

The symbolic exchange of torches between Nanjing and Singapore represents the friendship between the two cities who have formed a bond, as the only cities who have hosted the Summer Youth Olympic Games. This gesture also symbolises the sacred duties which both cities have undertaken to reach out to the youth of the world, in the spirit of the Olympic movement to promote sports and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.”
